How to get to | Galapagos Islands

This is part of a series of blog entries on how to get to countries and places. Here is a link to the index. I plan to eventually cover every country and some other places. If you have a request for a particular country or place please use the email me link at top right, or leave a comment.

The Galapagos Islands are relatively hard to get to. Visitors can arrive by cruise ship or by air, both relatively expensive and infrequent. There are a couple of small airports in the Galapagos Islands, served only by a couple of local airlines. LAN Ecuador has been trying for years to add flights to the islands, but at time of writing has still not started.

TIP Local fares (bought in Ecuador) are cheaper than air fares charged to foreigners. It is cheaper to fly from Guayaquil than from Quito.

TIP Flights to Galapagos Islands, like flights to Lord Howe Island, are weight restricted. Do not try to bring lots of luggage.
